Dear Friends –

Cuba is as dynamic, innovative, creative, interesting and fun as ever. There’s so much going on and so little time to soak it all up. We at CET feel blessed to work in such an invigorating place and have the privilege of connecting visitors to a truly unique island and people. Keep your eyes peeled for the endless array of special events happening in Cuba. Whether you’ll be here with us in 2019 or are living vicariously through the CET newsletter, below are past events we loved and future events we’re looking forward to!

Upcoming on December 5th – Paul Oakenfold at Fabrica

On December 5th, DJ icon Paul Oakenfold, a three-time Grammy Award and two-time World Music Awards nominee, will take over the Fabrica de Arte Cubano (FAC), Havana’s hippest hangout. An eclectic crowd of Cuban millennials will enjoy EDM, Jazz and Funk as Oakenfold will be joined by DJs Zen Freeman and John Acquaviva, and Cuba’s top drummer, Yissy Garcia, Cuba's most talented trumpet player, Yasek Manzano, and the uber hip and funky Cimafunk, the hottest Cuban band of 2018. CET and HabanaLive, a CET company, are proud to collaborate with Havana House and Fabrica de Arte Cubano on this special event. Join us!

Havana in Miami: A Sign of the Changing Times

Talk on “the new Cuba” has dominated coverage of the island in the past few years – with a diplomatic opening, a burgeoning private sector, and increased connectivity to the internet and to the world. Overshadowed is the new Miami – equally important in U.S.-Cuba relations and the future of Cuba policy. Miami has historically been ruled by Cuban-Americans against engagement with Cuba – where venues which hosted Cuban musicians were boycotted and even bombed. It’s changing. And young people are leading the charge.

CET & Cuba One Google Hangouts

CET is honored to partner with Cuba One, an incredible organization promoting reconciliation and connectivity between Cubans on and off the island, on monthly Google Hangouts. The first Friday of each month, we’ll feature special voices on Cuba, U.S.-Cuba relations and Cuba travel.

Our first “Cuba Hangout” was hosted by Collin Laverty on Novermber 2nd and featured Susanna Kohly, the co-founder & Head of Marketing at Google Cuba, who discusses Google’s work in Cuba and her heritage and personal story as a Cuban-American.

Upcoming Cuba Hangouts:

  • Richard Blanco, Cuban-American poet-laureate: Friday, December 7th at 3:05pm EST

  • Vickie Huddleston, Former U.S. Ambassador to Cuba: Friday, January 4th at 3:05pm EST

 You can tune in here.

Virgin Voyages Launches in Cuba

Virgin Voyages, a new high-end, millennial-focused cruise line announced Havana as its first destination. The company will begin service in 2020 and Cuba will be central to its operations.

We were quoted about the exciting announcement in the Miami Herald: “Virgin Voyages will service a new demographic of travelers to Cuba, which will greatly benefit the Cuban economy and the Cuban people,” said Collin Laverty, president of Cuba Educational Travel. “The Virgin brand is a perfect match for the incredible music, art and dance that Cuba offers.”

Congratulations to Lizt Alfonso

CET congratulates our great friend and ally Lizt Alfonso for being named on BBC’s list of 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world for 2018. Lizt is a leader in her community and has changed and shaped the lives of so many. We’re so proud to call her a friend.

En Fin, Cuba Is Where It’s At

As we get ready to party with Paul Oakenfold and the hottest musicians in Cuba on December 5th, there is plenty to keep us busy in the meantime. On Thursday, Nov 15thousands of Cubans enjoyed a top-notch fashion show sponsored by Google, followed by an all-out warehouse party with DJ Mia Moretti, who flew in from NYC to perform.

Friday, Nov 16 marked the start of Arte y Moda, and brands, such as Dador, brought the crowd at the Museum of Fine Arts to their feet with an amazing show. Last night, CET was proud to sponsor a fashion show, photo exhibit and beautiful party showcasing Cuban photographer May Reguera’s photos and various other Cuban designers. With the Havana Film Festival in December and the Jazz Plaza in January following an epic New Years in Havana, Cuba is Where It’s At!

If you’re considering coming down for the end of the year, there’s no better time to experience this magical island. Music fills the streets, and hugs, smiles, pig roasts and uncovered cakes are on full display for the New Year. Check out our upcoming trips section or reach out about private trips and special events.

Hasta pronto,
The CET Team
